The New York Jets are adding quarterback Will Levis to their practice squad, according to Tom Pelissero of Netflix and The Ringer. Levis started 21 games for the Tennessee Titans and missed last season with a shoulder injury before his release this offseason.
Levis takes the roster spot of Bailey Zappe, who is being released by the Jets. A second-round pick out of Kentucky, Levis struggled early in his NFL career but is regarded as having size, arm talent, and mobility.
The move comes after the Jets dropped their first game of the season, an overtime home loss to the Green Bay Packers. New York had opened the year with a dominant win over the Tennessee Titans.
The Jets play next on Sunday, visiting the Detroit Lions in a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
