Iowa's head coach points to a retooled offense as the Hawkeyes chase their first win in Ann Arbor since 2010.
Iowa heads to Michigan on Saturday looking to end a four-game losing streak against the Wolverines and pick up its first victory in Ann Arbor since 2010. The Hawkeyes have not visited Michigan Stadium since 2019, when the teams played a low-scoring 10-3 defensive game.
The last meeting between the programs was a 26-0 Michigan win in the Big Ten Championship Game in Indianapolis. Coach Kirk Ferentz said this year's Iowa offense, featuring Auburn transfer quarterback Hank Brown, wide receiver Tony Diaz from UT Rio Grande Valley, and new offensive coordinator Tim Lester, is better positioned to compete.
"The last time we got together, we were a little bit depleted offensively," Ferentz said. "I think we got a little more octane now in the tank than we did then."
Ferentz also praised Michigan's defense, ranked No. 10 nationally, pointing to a deep defensive front, active linebackers, and an aggressive secondary that is willing to deliver hits in run support.
On the other side of the ball, Ferentz said Iowa's defense must account for quarterback Bryce Underwood, who showed his ability in Week 2 against Oklahoma, along with receivers Andrew Marsh and JJ Buchanan and running backs Jordan Marshall and Savion Hiter.
