Caitlin Clark filled the stat sheet with 27 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, and Kelsey Mitchell chipped in 20 more as the Indiana Fever defeated the Minnesota Lynx 96-77 on Tuesday night. Mitchell's total added to her WNBA single-season scoring record.
The result came with a silver lining for Minnesota. When Portland defeated the Golden State Valkyries later in the evening, the Lynx locked up the No. 1 seed for the WNBA playoffs, which tip off Sunday.
The Lynx played without record-setting rookie Olivia Miles, who was scratched shortly before tip-off with a left calf injury. Miles had broken Caitlin Clark's rookie single-season scoring mark on Sunday.
Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve told reporters she had come close to sitting Miles in Sunday's game against Connecticut and that the team plans to evaluate the calf injury on a day-to-day basis heading into the postseason.
