Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin publicly congratulated Kevin Colbert after the longtime executive was inducted into the team's Hall of Honor. Tomlin, who spent 19 years leading the franchise, shared a social media post that included a photo of himself with Colbert from the ceremony.
"Words can't express what this man means to me," Tomlin wrote. "Thanks for everything, Kevin Colbert and congratulations on your selection to the @steelers Hall of Honor."
Colbert's ties to the organization stretch back more than two decades. He first joined the Steelers as Director of Football Operations and was later promoted to General Manager, a post he held while overseeing one of the most successful stretches in the franchise's recent history. During his tenure in Pittsburgh, the team won two Super Bowls.
The relationship between Colbert and Tomlin was central to that run. According to the account of the induction, Colbert was instrumental in Tomlin receiving the head coaching job after Bill Cowher resigned. Tomlin went on to win the Super Bowl in his second season at the helm, with Colbert serving as the general manager who helped build those rosters. The two men maintained a close working relationship throughout their years together in the organization.
Colbert was not the only figure honored in the 2026 Hall of Honor class. Cornerback J.T. Thomas and guard Craig Wolfley were also inducted as part of this year's group.
Speaking at the ceremony, Colbert reflected on what the recognition meant to him as a Pittsburgh native. He said that having grown up in the Pittsburgh area and watched the franchise's great players, coaches and administrators, he never imagined he would one day be part of that group himself.
Colbert added that even during his time with the team, the scope of the experience felt somewhat unreal, because the demands of the job left little room for reflection. It was only afterward, he said, that he considered all the people he had the chance to encounter, work with and learn from. He described the honor as bringing that feeling to the forefront.
The Steelers return to action in Week 4 with a home matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. The game is scheduled for Sunday, September 27 at 1:00 PM EDT at Acrisure Stadium and will air on CBS.
