Tennessee, Texas release final availability updates before SEC showdown

No. 13 Tennessee (3-0) hosts No. 1 Texas (3-0) on Sept. 26 at Neyland Stadium in the SEC opener for both teams. Kickoff is set for noon ET on ABC.
The SEC student-athlete availability report, updated Sept. 25, kept two Volunteers in the questionable category. Defensive lineman Nathan Robinson's issue is unknown, while running back Javin Gordon is dealing with a leg problem. Both remained uncertain to play as of the latest update.
Safety Dylan Lewis will not play against Texas. He suffered a foot injury during Tennessee's 42-9 win over Kennesaw State on Sept. 19.
Beyond Lewis, five other Tennessee players have been lost for the season. The list includes safety Edrees Farooq (knee), tight end Ethan Davis (knee), kick returner and wide receiver Joakim Dodson (leg), linebacker Jaedon Harmon (knee) and cornerback Jadais Richard (upper body).
On the Texas side, running back Hollywood Smothers was upgraded from questionable to probable on the latest report, making him likely to be available. On3 reported that Smothers did not practice Sept. 24, the day he carried the questionable tag.
Texas also lists several players as out for the game: defensive lineman Justus Terry, defensive back Xavier Filsaime and offensive lineman Jordan Coleman. Tight end Nick Townsend is doubtful.
The availability report process was introduced for the 2024 season and applies to conference games only. The first report comes out on Wednesday of an SEC game week, with daily updates and a final version 90 minutes before kickoff.
Before game day, schools designate players as available, probable, questionable, doubtful or out. On game day, the categories become available, game-time decision or out. Under league policy, schools must accurately report any player who may be unavailable for reasons including injury, illness, suspension, ineligibility or a personal matter, with fines ranging from $25,000 for a first offense up to $100,000 for a third or subsequent violation.
