San Diego starter Michael King lost for the 10th time this season, allowing five runs on six hits over four innings with two walks and five strikeouts. All five runs he allowed came with two outs, and his streak of eight consecutive quality starts came to an end.
Freddie Freeman drove in three runs, including a two-run single in a four-run second inning. Tommy Edman and Will Smith added solo home runs off Padres relievers.
The Padres (87-70) put runners on base in each of the first four innings but never advanced a runner to third against the Dodgers (97-60). Their top five hitters went a combined 1-for-17, ending a seven-game streak of double-digit hits that had matched a run from July 2006.
