Penn State receiver Koby Howard will miss significant time, head coach Matt Campbell said Wednesday, though the injury will not end his season. Howard was injured on a 70-yard touchdown catch during Saturday's 56-13 win over Buffalo.
The 13th-ranked Nittany Lions, now 3-0, begin conference play without one of their top playmakers. Howard has 12 catches for 344 yards and two touchdowns this year, already exceeding the seven receptions and 133 yards he posted a season ago.
Other targets should see expanded roles in his absence. Chase Sowell ranks second on the team with 126 receiving yards, while tight end Benjamin Brahmer has seven grabs for 97 yards and three scores. Brett Eskildsen, with nine catches for 83 yards and a touchdown, gives quarterback Rocco Becht another option.
Penn State opens Big Ten play Saturday at home against Wisconsin. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. ET on Peacock.
