Winnacunnet Girls Soccer Improves to 9-1 With Win Over Alvirne in Division I

Winnacunnet's girls downed Alvirne 3-1 for a ninth win in a row, highlighting a Thursday slate of Seacoast soccer, field hockey, volleyball and golf results.
The Winnacunnet High School girls soccer team earned its ninth consecutive victory on Oct. 1, defeating Alvirne 3-1 in a Division I match in Hudson and moving to 9-1. Senior Sophia Guimaraes set up one goal and scored another, Evyn Christie and Joyia Penachio found the net as well, and goalkeeper Julianne Banks came away with five saves. The Warriors have not lost since Bedford beat them 2-1 in their opener.
Dover defeated Londonderry 2-0 in Division I, with Kaitlyn Bastille and Declyn Mangum each finding the net and goalkeeper Norah O'Malley turning aside seven shots. In Division IV, Newmarket got the only goal it needed from Dimitra Zygouri, who finished a pass from Arianna Moulton, and Sofia Bellamente completed the shutout against Derryfield. "Huge win for this team," Newmarket coach Andrew Dawson said. "Outstanding performance all around."
Brooklyn Smith scored both goals as Marshwood topped Kennebunk 2-1 in a Class A South game, a result that left the Hawks at 3-5-1. In boys Division I action, Henri Morrison's brace carried Exeter past Salem 2-0, with Ryan Reich and Nick Costa picking up assists and Reid LaBroad making four saves for his sixth shutout this season. Spaulding and Timberlane played to a 2-2 draw, with Clark Folger and Will Thompson each delivering a goal and an assist and goalkeeper Andrew Doughty making six saves.
In other boys play, Pelham defeated Somersworth 4-1 in Division III, where Dillon Murgatroy scored Somersworth's only goal. Class B York edged Class C North Yarmouth Academy 3-2 on the strength of two goals from junior forward Ronin Avery, who opened the scoring off a feed from Tyler Mooers and added another off a Marcus Zietala assist. Senior midfielder Zietala scored the winner with six minutes remaining, and goalkeeper Orrin Culp Dechant finished with 10 saves.
Marshwood also prevailed in field hockey, beating Portland/Deering 4-0 in Class A South behind a three-goal, one-assist performance from senior captain Hazel Stout. Junior captain Emmalynn Piattoni contributed a goal and an assist as well, and goalkeeper Makayle Coy earned her first shutout this season.
Winnacunnet's volleyball team moved to 7-3 with a Division I sweep of Keene, 25-19, 25-10, 25-9. Emily Pitfick finished with 19 assists and four digs, Nora Simmons put down 10 kills to go with four aces, Kendra Caulmare added three assists, five aces and five digs, and Colette Neves had seven kills and three aces.
Dover took Nashua North to five sets before losing 23-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-20, 15-13 in Division I, getting 23 kills and nine digs from Grace Kelly, 16 kills and 10 digs from Ayla Raynor and 31 digs from Jovie Meeker. Portsmouth Christian beat Farmington 25-7, 22-25, 15-25, 25-17, 15-12 in Division IV, rallying behind Bea Monahan's 13 kills, two aces and 12 digs and Molly Marquis's eight kills, five aces and 12 digs. Caroline Braman added seven kills, Lexi Jordan 30 assists and 13 aces, and Dylan Anderson six kills for the Eagles.
Marshwood's volleyball team was swept by Thornton Academy 25-9, 25-9, 25-13 in a Class A match, with Hannah Tuttle recording 14 digs, Taylor Airey eight assists and Ann Cavanaugh three kills. On the golf course, Spaulding fired a 195 to win a four-team match at Rochester Country Club, with Dover (199) taking second, Windham (200) third and Salem (206) fourth. Dover, now 24-3 on the season, was led by Ty Buchanan's 2-over-par 38, while Des Fennessy shot 39, Collin Moe 40 and Brayden Patel and Ryan Sawyer 41 apiece.
Portsmouth and Winnacunnet finished level at 10-10 in unified soccer. Hudson Norris led Portsmouth with five goals, Liana Bower and Dashiell Swanson scored two apiece and Eryx Grant added one, with a good performance from goalkeeper Sydnee Lang. Micah Roy posted a game-high six goals for Winnacunnet, and Tyler Marino, Jason Ravell and Becky Keaton chipped in one each.
