Shuckers Reach Southern League Finals; Burke Named League MVP

Biloxi swept Pensacola in the division series to advance, while Nashville closed its season with a series loss to Memphis.

The Biloxi Shuckers, Milwaukee's Double-A affiliate, swept the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the Southern League Division Series to move on to the Southern League Championship Series against the Rocket City Trash Pandas. Shuckers infielder Blake Burke was named Southern League MVP.

Biloxi won the opener 6-3 after Damon Keith broke up a no-hit bid from Pensacola's Jacob Kisting with a solo home run in the fifth inning. Kisting, who left with an apparent injury, had held the Shuckers hitless through four. Game 2 finished 8-3, with two-run homers from Jesus Made, Matthew Wood, and Braylon Payne. Payne's drive came off the bat at 117 mph, the hardest-hit ball by a Shuckers player all season.

In the championship series, Biloxi dropped Game 1 to Rocket City, 5-4, despite home runs from Josh Adamczewski and Andrew Fischer. Fischer has set a franchise home run record this season, while Payne's 28 homers rank third in the Brewers system.

At Triple-A, the Nashville Sounds closed their year by losing four of six to the Memphis Redbirds, finishing 80-69. Jonathan Ornelas went 7-for-20 on the week with the first two home runs of his Sounds tenure.

On the mound for Nashville, Bryse Wilson threw 6 1/3 shutout innings with seven strikeouts on a rehab assignment. Coleman Crow allowed two runs across 9 2/3 innings despite giving up 12 hits, and Tate Kuehner permitted one run in four innings.
