Speaking with ESPN's Laura Rutledge afterward, Donald described the evening as a positive one. "It felt good," he said of being back on the field, adding that getting the opener behind him and coming away with a victory made the night satisfying.
Donald said the highlight went beyond football. His children were at the game, and television cameras showed them blowing kisses to him as he came out of the tunnel before kickoff.
"It means everything," Donald said. He noted his kids had phoned him roughly 20 times that morning saying they were ready to watch him play, and having his family there supporting him made the return even more meaningful.
