Jaxson Dart's Knee Injury Clouds Giants' Quarterback Plans

A Week 2 knee injury to Jaxson Dart has the Giants facing another long-term question at quarterback after initial optimism from team officials.

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury in the first quarter of Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Rams, and the follow-up imaging delivered worse news than team officials had initially suggested.

General manager Joe Schoen had said Dart was "going to be OK," and head coach John Harbaugh described the injury news as "really good." The MRI results pointed in a different direction, and the Giants have not provided a clear timeline or confirmed how much time their starting quarterback will miss.

Dart left the game roughly three and a half minutes into Week 2, and Jameis Winston took over at quarterback in what became a 28-6 loss to the Rams. The defeat dropped the Giants to 1-1 after an opening-week win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Dart, 23, was a first-round pick by the Giants in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss. He has two years remaining on his rookie contract, which could factor into the franchise's planning depending on where New York lands in next spring's draft.

Speaking with reporters on a conference call Tuesday, Harbaugh pushed back on the idea that the team would fold after the setback. "If you get punched in the gut, are you going down?" Harbaugh said. "I don't think so. I don't think so."
