The Boston Bruins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 5-1 in NHL preseason play, breaking the game open with a four-goal third period after the teams traded first-period goals.
Michael Eyssimont opened the scoring late in the first period with a shot that got past Dan Vladar, who had lost his stick. Philadelphia's Jacob Goucher answered on a breakaway against Max Guenette to tie the game at 1-1, and the second period passed without a goal or a penalty.
The turning point came when Vladar left the game and did not return after Tanner Jannot's skate struck his arm during a play at the net. The severity of the injury was not immediately known.
In the third, the Bruins took control against Philadelphia goalie Aleksei Kolosov. Morgan Geekie redirected a shot after a David Pastrnak fake, Brian Halonen buried a rebound, Elias Lindholm scored after extended zone time, and Eyssimont finished with a one-timer off a feed from Dans Locmelis.
Jeremy Swayman stopped shots at a .952 clip for Boston, while Connor Clifton led all skaters with 23:15 of ice time. The two teams were scheduled to meet again the following night at 7 p.m. ET.
