Sanders Says Colorado Has Cut Players, Though School Calls Moves Unfinalized

Colorado coach Deion Sanders said Tuesday that he has removed several players from the Buffaloes football team. He made the announcement at his weekly press conference following a 41-7 loss at Northwestern on Saturday night that dropped Colorado to 2-1 on the season.

Sanders criticized players who were seen laughing after the loss, saying he could not understand how anyone could find joy in that moment. He said the dismissals were not tied to a single incident but reflected conduct he viewed as detrimental to the team.

The coach added that he regretted not taking firmer action a year ago, when he believed similar issues lingered and eventually led to problems. Colorado finished the 2025 season at 3-9 after going 9-4 in 2024, and brought in 44 transfer portal additions in the offseason.

The university said in a statement that the roster changes were not finalized, despite Sanders saying players had been dismissed.
