Lions Week 3 depth chart: Pacheco out until December, four safeties sidelined

Detroit's updated Week 3 depth chart lists Jared Goff and Jahmyr Gibbs leading the offense, with Isiah Pacheco on IR and a safety group hit hard by injury before the Jets visit.

The Detroit Lions head into their Week 3 home game against the New York Jets with a mostly settled offense and a safety group hit hard by injuries, according to the updated depth chart for Sunday's matchup at Ford Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.

Jared Goff (16) tops the quarterback position, with Josh Dobbs (11) the only other passer listed. Jahmyr Gibbs (0) leads the running backs ahead of Sione Vaki (33) and Jacob Saylors (25). Isiah Pacheco (10) remains on injured reserve with an MCL strain and a back injury, and he is not expected back until December.

Amon-Ra St. Brown (14) and Jameson Williams (1) front a five-man wide receiver group rounded out by Isaac TeSlaa (18), Tay Martin (17) and Tom Kennedy (85). Sam LaPorta (87) sits atop the tight end room, followed by Brock Wright (89), Tyler Conklin (83) and Jackson Meeks (13).

The projected offensive line lists Penei Sewell (58) at left tackle, Christian Mahogany (73) at left guard, Juice Scruggs (70) at center, Tate Ratledge (69) at right guard and rookie Blake Miller (76) at right tackle. Mahogany (hip), Ratledge (elbow) and Miller (knee) each appear without an injury designation, while Larry Borom (79), Miles Frazier (71) and Seth McLaughlin (65), signed to the active roster this week, provide depth. Ben Bartch (78) is the lone player ruled out because of a foot injury, Cade Mays (64) is on injured reserve with a wrist issue and Giovanni Manu (59) remains on the non-football injury list with an undisclosed condition.

Along the defensive front, Alim McNeill (54) and Tyleik Williams (91) anchor an interior rotation that includes rookie Skyler Gill-Howard (50), Levi Onwuzurike (95) and Mekhi Wingo (94). Aidan Hutchinson (97) leads an edge group featuring DJ Wonnum (98), Tyler Lacy (93), rookies Derrick Moore (8) and Eric O'Neill (66), and Ahmed Hassanein (99), who is managing an illness but carries no designation.

Jack Campbell (46) holds down the middle of a seven-linebacker unit that also lists Derrick Barnes (55), Devin White (45), Malcolm Rodriguez (44), Trevor Nowaske (53), rookie Jimmy Rolder (41) and Amen Ogbongbemiga (57), brought up from the practice squad for this game. At cornerback, D.J. Reed (4) and Rock Ya-Sin (23) project as the starters, with Roger McCreary (21), Khalil Dorsey (30), rookie Keith Abney (6) and Ennis Rakestraw (2) behind them. Thirteen defenders carry starter labels on the chart to reflect how roles shift between base and subpackage fronts.

Injuries have hit the safety position hardest. Chuck Clark (36) and Christian Izien (5) top the chart, Jalen Mills (27) was promoted from the practice squad for Sunday, and rookie Bishop Fitzgerald (34) joined this week after signing from Pittsburgh's practice squad. Brian Branch (Achilles) and Kerby Joseph (knee) stay on the physically unable to perform list, though both are eligible to return, Thomas Harper (12) is on injured reserve with an ankle injury and Avonte Maddox (29) is out for the season with a foot injury.

In the kicking game, Jake Bates (39) handles field goals and kickoffs, Jack Fox (3) punts and holds, and Hogan Hatten (49) long-snaps through a wrist ailment that carries no designation. Kennedy fields punts, Kennedy and Saylors split kick returns, Dorsey pairs with either Izien or Martin as gunners, and Vaki serves as the personal protector.

The Jets visit the Lions on Sunday, September 27, at Ford Field in Detroit. Kickoff is 1:00 PM EDT and the game airs on FOX.
