The Los Angeles Dodgers cut their magic number for a first-round bye to one on Tuesday. A 7-0 victory over the San Diego Padres, combined with Atlanta's 4-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds, trimmed the number from three to one with five games remaining for both clubs.
Los Angeles can secure the bye by beating the Padres again on Wednesday, or if the Braves lose to the Reds. Atlanta sits five games behind the Dodgers, though the Braves hold the tiebreaker between the two teams.
Beyond the bye chase, the Dodgers trail the Milwaukee Brewers by one game in the standings. Milwaukee has already dropped the opener of its road series against the Philadelphia Phillies, leaving the door open for Los Angeles in the race for home-field advantage.
The Dodgers finish the regular season with three games in San Francisco. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Tarik Skubal each have one start remaining on the schedule.
