Dodgers shuffle roster with flurry of September transactions

Los Angeles made more than a dozen moves since September 1, including injured-list activations for Roki Sasaki, Edwin Díaz and Will Smith.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have stayed busy on the transaction wire through September as they manage their 40-man roster down the stretch. The most recent moves came on September 21, when outfielder Andy Pages and right-hander Roki Sasaki were activated from the injured list and pitchers Emmet Sheehan and catcher Eliezer Alfonzo were optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Sasaki had been placed on the 15-day injured list on August 27, one of several pitching injuries the club navigated during the month. Closer Edwin Díaz returned from the 15-day injured list on September 18, and Blake Treinen was activated from the 60-day injured list on September 2.

Catcher Will Smith came off the 60-day injured list on September 1, the same day Dalton Rushing and Justin Wrobleski were activated. Rushing later went back on the 10-day injured list on September 6. Two-way star Shohei Ohtani was placed on the 15-day injured list on September 11, with outfielder Josue De Paula selected from Double-A Tulsa.

The club also made several roster-clearing moves. Outfielder Alek Thomas and catcher Ben Rortvedt were designated for assignment and both cleared waivers, with each sent outright to Oklahoma City. Outfielder Ryan Ward was designated for assignment on September 16, and left-hander Kris Bubic was activated from the 60-day injured list that same day.

Pitching assignments to Triple-A Oklahoma City were frequent, involving Bobby Miller, Landon Knack, Kyle Hurt, Seth Halvorsen, Paul Gervase and Sheehan across the month. Ace Tarik Skubal was placed on the bereavement list on September 20.
