Malik Nabers said he felt a big game coming all week, then caught six passes for 112 yards and a touchdown in the Giants' 36-24 Week 4 win over Arizona.
Malik Nabers spent the week believing a big performance was coming, and Sunday afternoon proved him right. The wide receiver caught six passes for 112 yards and a touchdown as the New York Giants beat the Arizona Cardinals 36-24 in Week 4 action at home. His yardage total paced all New York pass catchers on the day.
Nabers, speaking after the final whistle in comments relayed by reporter Jordan Raanan, said his confidence had built throughout the week of practice. "I knew it was coming this game," Nabers said. "Everybody was asking me. I was like, 'I just felt good through the whole week.'"
The receiver also explained why he stayed quiet about his expectations beforehand. "I just didn't want to jinx myself, so I was just trying to be humble and wait for the game to come to me," Nabers said. The approach preceded the breakout showing he had anticipated.
The performance headlined a productive start to the second NFL season of Nabers' career. New York has managed a series of injuries this year, including one to Jaxson Dart, yet the wideout has kept producing as a central playmaker in the offense. Sunday's effort against Arizona reflected how the Giants have leaned on him with the lineup depleted.
The Giants needed a comeback to get there. Arizona scored the game's first two touchdowns and led 14-3 at the end of the opening quarter. New York answered with a 16-3 second period, outscored the Cardinals 17-7 over the final 30 minutes of regulation, and controlled the game from there. Deonte Banks ended Arizona's chances with a game-ending interception return for a touchdown.
Quarterback Jameis Winston mixed a series of early mistakes with the decisive plays of the contest for New York. He completed 18 of 29 passes for 250 yards with three touchdown passes and two interceptions, and he made the throws that secured the victory. He also spread the ball across a range of targets in the passing game.
Nabers and Winston received plenty of support from the rest of the offense. Cam Skattebo carried the rushing load with 18 attempts for 58 yards. Isaiah Likely added seven receptions for 66 yards, while Malachi Fields and Theo Johnson each caught a touchdown pass.
The result continued a promising start to the season under head coach John Harbaugh. New York has played above expectations through the opening weeks despite being hit hard by injuries, and the Week 4 win over Arizona served as another example of the progress the team has made.
The Giants now turn the page to a road test in Week 5. They are scheduled to visit the Washington Commanders on Sunday, Oct. 11, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. ET.
