Akron fan Marty Whims is getting a spot in EA Sports' College Football 27. Whims earned the chance to run the Zips' offense for a single series through a team contest that let a fan call the plays.
That opportunity came on the team's opening drive against Robert Morris, a game Akron went on to win 45-10. The possession did not go as planned, ending with a fumble, though Whims described the whole experience as exceeding anything he had imagined.
Whims told the Beacon Journal he never anticipated how much attention the moment would draw, including an appearance on ESPN's College GameDay and the news that EA Sports planned to add him to the game as offensive coordinator.
In the title's Dynasty mode, players control hiring and firing decisions as well as in-game choices. Whims' virtual counterpart will also face objectives, including beating rival Kent State.
