The New York Islanders picked up their second preseason win of the exhibition schedule Tuesday night in Manhattan, defeating the New York Rangers 4-3 after falling behind 3-0. The comeback was powered by three power play goals.
Matias Maccelli, an offseason acquisition, scored twice in the game. Goaltender Semyon Varlamov also returned to the ice, seeing his first game action after a long rehabilitation process. He called the return a very special moment following his rehab.
Head coach Pete DeBoer and Varlamov both spoke to reporters after the game. The Rangers held a three-goal lead before the Islanders scored four unanswered goals to win.
Elsewhere in camp, the team's latest cuts are beginning to fill out the AHL roster in Hamilton, and rookie Victor Eklund has fellow Swedes on the roster to learn from, according to the team.
Around the league, the NHL offered little new information on the Texas expansion process and named Ted Leonsis as the new Board of Governors lead.
