A grilled cheese sandwich packed with candy is coming to UBS Arena. The New York Islanders, working with food partner Delaware North, announced the Nerds Gummy Cluster Grilled Cheese for the 2026-27 NHL season. The sandwich uses sourdough bread and combines brie with Nerds Gummy Clusters in a mix the team calls crunchy and sweet.
It is not the only unconventional option headed to the team's concession stands. Also planned is an Uncrustable pulled pork tostada, built on a fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich with pulled pork and grape jelly barbecue sauce on top.
The menu news spread quickly across social media, where fans debated whether candy belongs inside a grilled cheese. Some also joked that the Hurricanes' Seth Jarvis should be kept far from the sandwich.
The team has other developments underway as the season approaches. Bo Horvat was named captain earlier in September, taking over from Anders Lee. New York beat the New Jersey Devils 4-3 in a preseason game Tuesday and has two exhibition contests left.
The regular season opens Sept. 30 in Toronto against the Maple Leafs, followed by the home opener at UBS Arena on Oct. 3 against the Devils.
