Jaymar Hargrove-Mundy, a defensive back who helped La Salle capture a 2019 Ohio Division II state title, has died; no cause has been reported.
Jaymar Hargrove-Mundy, a 2021 alumnus of La Salle High School in Cincinnati and a former captain of its football team, has died. No cause of death has been disclosed. As a defensive back, he was part of the Lancers squad that claimed the Division II state championship during the 2019 season and advanced to the state semifinals the following year, his final campaign at the school.
The La Salle football program honored him in a Sept. 23 post on X, writing that hearts were broken and offering prayers to his family, friends and teammates, closing with "Forever a Lancer." Head coach Pat McLaughlin told the Enquirer by text that Mundy would be remembered as a LaSallian brother, describing him as upbeat, positive and someone heaven gained as an angel.
Mundy earned second-team all-state recognition as a senior and third-team honors as a junior. In 2020 he was named the Greater Catholic League-South defensive back of the year after recording 45 tackles, eight pass breakups and two interceptions; in the 2019 title season he totaled 50 tackles, 17 pass breakups and six interceptions, including a 27-yard fumble-return touchdown in a first-round playoff win over Little Miami.
He signed with Miami University in 2020, spent two seasons at Hutchinson Community College appearing in 19 games, then transferred to Western Kentucky in 2024 and Ohio University in 2025, where he played five games in his final season. Ohio cornerbacks coach De'Angelo Smith paid tribute on Instagram, and mourners have left remembrances in the comments of Mundy's recent posts.
