Lions' Jared Goff welcomes critics as Detroit hosts Jets on FOX

The Detroit Lions return to Ford Field on Sunday to host the New York Jets, with both teams at 1-1 and kickoff set for 1 p.m. ET on FOX. After a road loss to Buffalo and the ensuing layoff, quarterback Jared Goff made clear this week that he views the outside doubt around Detroit's start as something to welcome rather than fight.
The defeat came in Week 2, on Sept. 17 at Buffalo, where Detroit fell 41-31. Goff still piled up 327 passing yards and four touchdowns, but the Lions' defense turned in another difficult performance.
Goff is aware of the outside conversation about how Detroit has opened the year, and speaking with reporters earlier this week, he leaned into it rather than brushing it aside. "I'm excited to get back home and play in front of our fans for sure, but you love when the vultures start coming out," Goff said. "Guys' character really emerges, and I know our guys in this locker room."
"You get to see those guys stand tall and be who they are, stay in the fire and take the shots and still fight right through it," he continued. Goff then put the defeat in perspective. "We're 1-1 and we lost the game by 10 points unfortunately, but we're in a great place," he said. "We feel great and excited to get back in front of our fans."
The time between games, Goff acknowledged, gave the outside chatter room to grow. "After a long weekend, you can kind of hear a lot. I think your friends are texting you, your family is texting you," he said. "I'm not saying this is the case for me, but I understand how it works across the locker room."
His answer was a return to routine. "I think it's nice to get back in the building, get back in our bubble and go back to work," Goff said. After a frustrating game in Buffalo and the additional days off, being back at home could offer the Lions a lift.
Sunday's game also brings a homecoming angle. Aaron Glenn, now the Jets' head coach after serving as Detroit's defensive coordinator, will step into Ford Field leading his own team for the first time. Glenn was part of Dan Campbell's original staff when Campbell was hired in 2021, and he remains highly respected within the Lions organization. New York also enters Sunday at 1-1.
The Lions and Jets are scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 27, from Ford Field in Detroit. FOX will carry the broadcast.
Also on FOX in the Sunday 1 p.m. window, the Los Angeles Chargers visit the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff there is set for 1:00 PM EDT on Sunday, September 27.
