Beth Mead pulled one back for City on the stroke of half-time. Bayern argued that a pyrotechnic thrown onto the pitch had affected the play, but after a video review officials allowed the goal to stand.
City were awarded a penalty in the 61st minute after Ena Mahmutovic fouled Aoba Fujino. Khadija Shaw took the spot kick a minute later, but the Bayern goalkeeper saved the attempt.
Substitute pressure eventually paid off when Carlotta Wamser scored City's equalizer with four minutes remaining, finishing a move involving Lauren Hemp and Laura Blindkilde-Brown. The result keeps Manchester City unbeaten this season.
