Mets Remove Interim Tag, Name Andy Green Manager on Three-Year Deal

Second baseman Marcus Semien praised the move, citing player development and a steadier clubhouse since Green took over midseason.

The New York Mets have removed the interim tag from Andy Green and signed him to a three-year contract as their full-time manager, the club announced. Green had been widely expected to return to the front office after guiding the team through a difficult stretch, but the organization instead chose continuity in the dugout.

Second baseman Marcus Semien endorsed the decision. "I'm glad they did," Semien said. "Everybody's happy. Since Andy stepped in, he's helped a lot of guys be a better version of themselves, and we've been playing a good brand of baseball."

Green posted a 37-38 record as interim manager while dealing with a wave of injuries and trade deadline departures. The Mets, who sit at 71-85, had briefly climbed out of last place in the National League East before a mid-September slide.

Young players have been central to the case for keeping Green. Carson Benge has nearly 160 hits, AJ Ewing has 24 stolen bases in 114 games, and pitchers Christian Scott, Zac Thornton and Nolan McLean have taken on larger roles in the rotation.

The Mets continue their season with a series against the Texas Rangers in Arlington, where the hosts are chasing a playoff berth.
