The goal, Miranchuk's sixth of the season, was set up by assists from Miguel Almirón and Júnior Alonso. He created space against his marker and finished with a left-footed shot past Portland goalkeeper James Pantemis.
The goal matched Miranchuk's output from his first full MLS season a year ago, when he also scored six times in 33 appearances. Hoyos, a 37-year-old who joined Atlanta in the offseason, recorded his third shutout across 26 starts by turning away every Portland shot on target.
The defeat extended Portland's losing streak to two matches, with the Timbers managing only four goals over their last three games. That slump follows a 5-4 win over Minnesota United earlier in the month. Portland still holds ninth place in the Western Conference, the final playoff position.
