Chiefs Contact Tyreek Hill's Agent After Injuries Hit Receiver Group

The short version
- The Chiefs are the AFC's only undefeated team entering Week 5 after beating the Raiders
- Tyquan Thornton (ankle) and Rashee Rice (hamstring) were injured in Sunday's win
- Kansas City contacted agent Drew Rosenhaus about signing Tyreek Hill, per The Athletic's Mike Silver
- Hill, 32, is recovering from a dislocated knee and torn ligaments, with November seen as a realistic return
Kansas City, the AFC's last unbeaten team, has reached out to Drew Rosenhaus about signing Tyreek Hill as injuries sideline Tyquan Thornton and Rashee Rice.
Kansas City owns the AFC's only unblemished record heading into Week 5, though Sunday's narrow victory against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium proved costly. Wide receivers Tyquan Thornton and Rashee Rice each exited with injuries, leaving the pass-catching group around quarterback Patrick Mahomes shorthanded.
A reunion with Tyreek Hill now appears to be a live possibility. Mike Silver of The Athletic reported Sunday that the Chiefs have interest in signing the wideout, and that Mahomes, Chris Jones, Travis Kelce and others told him they would embrace having the former All-Pro back in Kansas City.
The push has already produced action. In a follow-up report Sunday night, Silver wrote that the organization contacted Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, about a potential agreement once the receiver receives medical clearance. Silver characterized the franchise as "very interested," noting that the desire existed before either receiver was hurt against the Raiders. Kansas City originally dealt Hill to the Miami Dolphins in March 2022 after declining to meet his asking price on a new contract.
Thornton's situation is the more serious of the two. He entered the league as the 50th overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, joined Kansas City's practice squad in November 2024 and had developed into one of the offense's breakout performers this year, supplying the downfield dimension the passing game had lacked since Hill departed.
Sunday represented a career breakthrough before it turned sour. Thornton posted a personal-best 111 receiving yards — his first outing over 100 — and reached the end zone multiple times in a game for the first time. Late in the fourth quarter, though, he dislocated an ankle on a deep catch that positioned the go-ahead touchdown, and Silver reported the wideout could sit out the remainder of the season with a broken ankle.
Rice went down earlier in the contest with a hamstring problem that head coach Andy Reid played down as a "tweak." Silver's Sunday-night reporting suggested greater concern, with the initial expectation that the club's top receiver could be unavailable for several weeks. Kansas City's Week 5 bye offers recovery time, yet missing multiple games remains a real possibility.
Hill, 32, has been working back from a dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments, a rehabilitation that has moved slowly. Writing on social media in late September, he signaled a comeback was close, saying it was "almost time to get off the couch and get to work." A return to the field in late October represents the best-case scenario, with November viewed as more realistic.
Should the sides strike a deal, the expectation is that interest would run in both directions. Hill could be phased into the role Thornton had claimed as the offense's deep threat, while the hope within the building is that Rice, once his hamstring fully heals, resumes his customary short-area role for Mahomes.
