Tresoldi keeps Italy option open while featuring for Germany youth teams

The Club Brugge forward says he is happy with Germany's youth setup but has not decided his senior international future.

Club Brugge forward Nicolò Tresoldi says he is proud to represent Germany at youth level but has not ruled out a future with Italy's national team.

Tresoldi, 21, is eligible for both countries. He told reporters he wants to play the Under-21 European Championship with Germany and will assess his situation afterward.

The player said he spoke with Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp about his situation and described the conversation as more like a father-son talk than a typical coach-player exchange. He said Klopp told him the door remains open.

Tresoldi said he passed along the same message to Roberto Mancini. He noted that his connection to Italy goes beyond his father, as he was born and raised there. His mother is Argentine of Italian descent.

The family moved to Germany in 2017, when Tresoldi joined the youth setup at Hannover 96.
