The Evansville Otters opened the Frontier League Championship series with a 6-0 shutout of the Ottawa Titans on Tuesday at Bosse Field in Evansville, Indiana.
Dennis Pierce put the Otters on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. From there, pitching dominated early, with starters Garret Simpson of Evansville and Eric Pardinho of Ottawa combining for 16 strikeouts. Simpson worked seven innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out seven; Pardinho fanned nine over six frames.
Evansville broke the game open with two more runs in the sixth on hits from Pierce, LG Castillo, an RBI single by Blake Robertson, and another run-scoring hit from Sam Linscott. The Otters tacked on three additional runs in the seventh, including a two-run single from Mt. Vernon's Logan Brown.
The Otters now sit two wins from the Frontier League title. Game two is scheduled for Wednesday, September 23, at 6:35 p.m. at Bosse Field in Evansville.
