Alonso Homers Twice on Son's First Birthday as Orioles Beat Blue Jays

Pete Alonso hit his 39th and 40th home runs of the season on his son Theodore's first birthday, rallying Baltimore past Toronto 4-3.

Pete Alonso delivered two home runs on the day his son Theodore turned one, lifting the Baltimore Orioles to a 4-3 comeback win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night at Camden Yards.

The Blue Jays scored three runs in the first inning off starter Shane Baz, and Baltimore had gone 19 innings without scoring entering the game. Alonso got the Orioles on the board with a 363-foot solo home run to right field off Trey Yesavage.

With two outs in the eighth inning and a runner on first, Alonso hit a 400-foot two-run homer to left off Tyler Rogers to erase a 3-2 deficit. Alonso said he used Earth, Wind & Fire's 'September' as his walk-up song that at-bat in honor of his son's birthday.

The homers were Alonso's 39th and 40th of the season. He now leads the American League with 108 RBIs and has recorded his fourth season with at least 40 home runs and 100 RBIs in seven full campaigns. He is playing the first year of a five-year, $155 million contract after leaving the New York Mets.

The game followed a 47-minute rain delay in front of 12,057 fans. The loss dropped Toronto along with the 76-81 Orioles, who remain on the brink of playoff elimination.
