Barkley and Smith Will Play Monday for Philadelphia; Brown Ruled Out

The short version
- Saquon Barkley (stinger) and DeVonta Smith were removed from the final injury report and will play Monday vs. Chicago.
- Wide receiver Hollywood Brown is out with an ankle injury after not practicing.
- Tight end Dallas Goedert will also miss the game with a knee injury; several defensive players remain limited.
- Smith leads the Eagles with 13 catches, 170 yards and a touchdown; Barkley has 92 rushing yards through two games.
- The 2-0 Eagles beat Tennessee 24-20 in Week 2 behind Smith's 10-catch, 117-yard performance.
The Eagles get their top running back and leading receiver back for the Bears matchup, but a knee injury will sideline Dallas Goedert and a speed receiver is out with an ankle issue.
An offense that endured a rough stretch of injury news this week got a lift on Saturday: Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith are officially available for Philadelphia's Monday night matchup with Chicago. Both practiced at some point late in the week and no longer appear on the final injury report, meaning quarterback Jalen Hurts will have his top running back and top wideout at his disposal.
The announcement, first reported by Adam Schefter, came with a downside. Wide receiver Hollywood Brown will not suit up against the Bears because of an ankle problem. He was listed as a non-participant on the NFL injury report after failing to practice.
Barkley had been questionable coming off a stinger sustained on the opening offensive snap of Philadelphia's 24-20 victory at Tennessee. He managed only four rushing attempts for nine yards in that contest before exiting the picture. Through two games this season, the running back has compiled 92 yards on the ground.
Smith, by contrast, was central to the comeback in Nashville. He hauled in 10 receptions for 117 yards and a score, and four of those catches came during the drive that put the Eagles ahead for good. He currently paces the club with 13 grabs, 170 receiving yards and a touchdown over the first two weeks.
Brown's absence is the latest blow to a receiving corps that was rebuilt over the offseason after the team parted ways with A.J. Brown. Smith assumed the No. 1 role, with Hollywood Brown, first-round rookie Makai Lemon and Dontayvion Wicks brought in around him. His production so far in 2026 has been minimal — he played no offensive snaps in the opener and gained 12 yards on two carries against the Titans, with zero targets in either game.
Even so, the injury deprives offensive coordinator Sean Mannion of a piece he valued. Brown was signed largely for his straight-line speed, and Mannion has spoken about shuffling his receivers into different spots to exploit their varied skill sets. Removing one of those options cuts into the unit's versatility.
Philadelphia will also take the field without tight end Dallas Goedert, who is nursing a knee injury, while a handful of defenders continue to work through limitations. The club heads into Monday at 2-0 despite the shortened deck.
Fans can catch the Eagles visiting the Bears on Monday, September 28 at 8:15 PM EDT from Soldier Field, with coverage on ESPN and ABC.
