Scholes Criticizes Manchester United's Summer Spending Under INEOS

The former United midfielder says the club's new signings, including £50 million arrival Andrey Santos, are not improving the team.
Paul Scholes has criticized Manchester United's transfer business under INEOS, arguing that the players brought in this summer have not raised the team's level. Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, the former midfielder said the club no longer appears to be recruiting with a Premier League title in mind.
Scholes pointed to Andrey Santos, who cost £50 million, as an example. The 22-year-old Brazilian has made just one start in the league this season, coming in the opening match at Hull City on August 22, where he played 67 minutes of a 2-0 defeat.
Since then, Santos has seen minimal action. He came on for 10 minutes against Ipswich Town and six minutes against Everton, then stayed on the bench for the games with Manchester City and Fulham. He had signed from Chelsea after struggling to break into a midfield containing Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
Santos ranked as United's second-priciest purchase of the window behind Carlos Baleba. Scholes suggested the club was consolidating on last season's work under Michael rather than pushing for a title, adding that an Elliot Anderson-type signing would have been the kind to genuinely improve the side.
"I think they're a million miles away," Scholes said of United's chances of winning the league.
