Texas A&M (2-2) welcomes Arkansas to Kyle Field on Saturday for the first time since 2020, with quarterback Marcel Reed's form and Mario Craver's status in focus.
Texas A&M hosts Arkansas on Saturday night at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, seeking to end a two-game losing streak to open Southeastern Conference play. The Week 5 matchup is the Aggies' first home game in the series since 2020, when they beat the Razorbacks 42-31 at Kyle Field.
The rivalry has produced its share of wild finishes, and last season's meeting was no exception: Texas A&M held on for a 45-42 win in Fayetteville. Saturday marks the first time the programs have met at Kyle Field in six years.
Texas A&M's secondary has been one of the early disappointments, allowing 212.0 passing yards per game through four weeks. LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt threw for 312 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Aggies in Week 4 despite a left hamstring injury. The unit now draws Arkansas wide receiver Chris Marshall, the SEC's leading receiver, who has posted consecutive games with more than 100 receiving yards, including against No. 2 Georgia in Week 3.
Quarterback Marcel Reed sits at the center of the Aggies' problems. The junior from Nashville, Tennessee, managed just over 100 passing yards with no touchdowns and an interception against LSU, and the offense finished with fewer than 200 total yards for the first time since a 2022 upset loss to Appalachian State. Reed ranks last among SEC starting quarterbacks in completion percentage and is tied for third in the league in interceptions this season, behind Byrum Brown and Leavitt.
The backfield gets a boost this week. Sophomore running back Jamarion Morrow is set to return after missing the LSU game and will join Rueben Owens II, who averaged 5.5 yards per carry against the Tigers, along with freshman KJ Edwards. The group faces an Arkansas run defense ranked No. 13 in the SEC, and with the passing game lagging, the running backs are expected to shoulder most of the offensive workload.
The air attack may be shorthanded. Mario Craver, the Aggies' leading receiver, was listed as questionable for Saturday on the SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report released Wednesday night. Texas A&M has already lost Terry Bussey for the season, leaving Isaiah Horton and Ashton Bethel-Roman to make up the production against an Arkansas secondary ranked No. 7 in the conference in pass defense.
Texas A&M was a 14-point favorite as of Thursday, though the report points to Reed's uneven play and the possible absence of his top receiver as the main worries heading into the weekend. Arkansas, meanwhile, is described as a team that has struggled this season, though its pass defense has played well in stretches over the first four games.
A victory would move Texas A&M to 3-2 overall in 2026 and end the skid after consecutive conference losses. How well the Aggies contain Marshall, and whether Morrow, Owens and Edwards can control the game on the ground, are cited as the keys to the outcome Saturday night at Kyle Field.
