Sean Strickland said he hit his head on the ground without a helmet after the vehicle he was riding in rolled roughly six times.
UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland said he was involved in a high-speed crash on Monday night. In social media posts, Strickland said a friend was driving when the vehicle rolled approximately six times at about 60 miles per hour.
Strickland, visibly scraped and bruised in his posts, said his head struck the ground and that he was not wearing a helmet. He later shared video of the crash and its aftermath.
In a follow-up update, Strickland said his friend, identified as Chris, lost consciousness briefly after exiting the vehicle and was taken to the hospital. Strickland said his friend is expected to be alright.
The crash is not Strickland's first serious vehicle incident. In December 2018, he crashed his motorcycle into a van, an accident that left him unconscious and caused knee damage requiring surgery, keeping him out of UFC competition for two years.
Strickland, 35, last fought in May, defeating Khamzat Chimaev by split decision to win the middleweight title.
