Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones addressed questions about the playing surface at Maracana Stadium during a Tuesday radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan, telling The Athletic's Jon Machota he is comfortable with how the grass is shaping up. Jones said he expects the NFL to have the field prepared and believes a good game can be played on it.
The condition of the natural grass drew attention after recent soccer matches at the venue, with players including Flamengo goalkeeper Agustin Rossi complaining about bumps in the surface. Jones noted that the game could be relocated if the league had serious worries, but no such backup plan exists, a sign the matchup remains on schedule for Rio de Janeiro.
Dallas arrives at 1-1 after beating the Washington Commanders 37-20, a game in which Dak Prescott threw four touchdown passes. Jones acknowledged the running game must improve after the Cowboys managed 66 yards on 21 carries against Washington, and the defense now faces Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore offense.
