Houston (0-3) and Dallas (1-2) meet Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. ET on Fox at NRG Stadium, with both Texas teams trying to stop early-season slides in Week 4.
The Houston Texans host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Oct. 4, at NRG Stadium in a Week 4 matchup of the NFL's two Texas franchises, both of which sit below .500. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET, noon local time in Houston. Each team arrives needing to steady a season that has begun poorly despite meaningful expectations.
Sunday's game airs regionally on Fox, with Kenny Albert and Greg Olsen handling the broadcast from Houston. Viewers can also stream the contest live through DIRECTV or fubo, both of which offer free trials to new subscribers.
Houston enters at 0-3, a rough opening for a team some considered a dark-horse Super Bowl pick behind a strong defense. Slow starts have happened to this franchise before. This season's trouble is more specific: the offense has been hampered over the last two weeks by an injury to wide receiver Nico Collins and limited progress from quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Dallas enters at 1-2. The Cowboys have found much to like in their offense so far, but a chaotic finish in Brazil against the Baltimore Ravens kept a win out of reach and left the club below .500 once more. Injuries continue to build on the defensive side of the roster for a team that opened the campaign with postseason expectations.
A defeat Sunday would put either club in a difficult spot barely a month into the season. Houston would fall to 0-4, while Dallas would slip to 1-3 — deep holes given the expectations each carried into the fall: outside Super Bowl consideration for the Texans, playoff ambitions for the Cowboys.
Houston's schedule beyond Sunday begins with a road game at the Tennessee Titans on Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. ET, followed by an international meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Oct. 18 at 9:30 a.m. ET. The Texans then return home to face the New York Giants on Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. ET. November opens with a trip to the Los Angeles Chargers on Nov. 8 at 4:05 p.m. ET and continues with a visit to the Cleveland Browns on Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. ET.
Dallas faces a quick turnaround once Sunday's game ends. The Cowboys host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. ET, then head out for back-to-back away games: at the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 18 at 8:15 p.m. ET and at the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, Oct. 26, at 8:20 p.m. ET. A home date with the Arizona Cardinals arrives Nov. 1 at 8:15 p.m. ET, followed by a road matchup with the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. ET.
Whichever way Sunday goes, the coming weeks offer little relief. Dallas must regroup quickly for the Buccaneers on a short week, and Houston's docket includes the overseas trip for the Jaguars game in London before the calendar turns toward November.
