The San Francisco 49ers have signed defensive tackle Naquan Jones off the Minnesota Vikings practice squad, according to Tom Pelissero. The move adds experienced depth to an interior line that lost rookie James Thompson Jr., who is expected to miss time with a high-ankle sprain.
Jones, listed at 6-foot-3 and 313 pounds, appeared in 177 snaps during the 2025 season with the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Chargers. He previously spent two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and began his career with three years on the Tennessee Titans.
Per Sumer Sports, Jones recorded 13 tackles with two missed in 2025, along with 13 impact plays. His pass-rushing production was limited, with two pressures and a 3.3% win rate, while his run-stop rate sat at 4.8%.
Heading into Week 3, Osa Odighizuwa, CJ West, and Gracen Halton were the only healthy defensive tackles on the roster. Jones becomes the fourth player at the position and gives the team a veteran option while Thompson recovers.
