Texas went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and fell back below .500 after a 6-3 defeat to New York on Monday night in Arlington.
The New York Mets defeated the Texas Rangers 6-3 on Monday at Globe Life Field in Arlington. The loss dropped Texas, which entered the night leading the American League West, back below the .500 mark.
Texas struggled at the plate, finishing 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and leaving multiple scoring threats unfulfilled, including a bases-loaded opportunity. The Rangers did not record a hit after the first batter of the fourth inning.
MacKenzie Gore gave Texas five innings of one-run ball despite an ongoing muscle issue, departing after 77 pitches. Manager Skip Schumaker turned to Nathan Eovaldi to open the sixth with Texas ahead 3-2, but the Mets scored three runs in the frame, aided by Texas defensive miscues, to take a 5-3 lead. New York added an insurance run in the seventh.
Mets starter Sean Manaea worked six innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out nine. It was his first start completing six innings in a month.
The two teams meet again Wednesday at Globe Life Field, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. CDT on the Rangers Sports Network. New York is scheduled to start right-hander Nolan McLean; Texas had not announced its starting pitcher.
