Francisco Alvarez went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI in New York's win over Texas, extending a hitting streak to three games.
Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in New York's 6-3 victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday. The 24-year-old has now hit safely in three straight games and is batting .286 (8-for-28) with a home run and five RBI over his last seven contests.
Manager Andy Green praised the catcher's approach after the win, noting that Alvarez used the whole field and that even his outs were well struck. Green said the goal is to shorten the rough stretches and described the best version of Alvarez as a hitter with real power to all fields who does not need to swing hard to produce hard contact.
The surge follows a difficult stretch in which Alvarez was batting .148 (4-for-27) over seven games, leading Green to bench him in favor of Luis Torrens on Sept. 16 after a 1-for-9 series in Baltimore. While the catcher has set a career high with 125 strikeouts this season, he has adjusted his swing mechanics.
Alvarez said he has been working to stay back and make contact deeper in the zone, trusting that his power will play. He deferred any full assessment of his 2026 season, smiling and pointing out that five games remain on the schedule.
