New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Rams. According to multiple reports, Dart will have surgery to repair damage to his meniscus, MCL and PCL, though his ACL is intact.
The injury occurred on the seventh snap of the game while Dart was dropping back to pass on third-and-8. Edge rusher Byron Young and outside linebacker Josaiah Stewart converged on him, and Dart fell awkwardly into Stewart. He grabbed his left knee before limping off under his own power and was later ruled out for the night.
The loss is a major blow to first-year head coach John Harbaugh, who took the Giants job in January after 18 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. General manager Joe Schoen said Harbaugh met with Dart for roughly 45 minutes during the hiring process and came away impressed, and the quarterback was a significant factor in Harbaugh's decision to join New York.
Dart, a 2025 first-round pick, had opened the season strong, completing 79.3% of his passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-20 win over the Cowboys. As a rookie he threw for 2,272 yards with 15 touchdowns against five interceptions and added 487 rushing yards and nine scores.
Jameis Winston takes over at quarterback. He replaced Dart against the Rams and completed 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards with no touchdowns and an interception.
