Gronkowski: Adams' quick release sets Rams receiver apart

The former tight end pointed to Davante Adams' explosiveness off the line as the key to his big game against the Giants.

Rob Gronkowski credited Davante Adams' explosiveness at the snap as the trait that separates the Los Angeles Rams wideout from other receivers. Appearing on the "Up & Adams Show," the former NFL tight end reacted to Adams' standout showing in a 28-6 Rams win over the New York Giants, in which he hauled in eight receptions for 195 yards and a pair of scores.

Gronkowski described Adams' release as exceptional, saying that kind of speed off the line of scrimmage is what creates separation right away. He added that the quickness lets Adams dictate where the defensive back goes before the route even develops, calling him a complete receiver who can win at every level of the field. Gronkowski also compared it to his own game, noting that burst off the line was one of his own strengths in the red zone.

Both of Adams' touchdowns against New York drew praise. On the first, Gronkowski marveled at how the receiver rose to catch a difficult Matthew Stafford throw and maintained his balance on the way down. On the second, Adams faked toward the outside before cutting sharply toward the end zone, which Gronkowski called a signature use of quickness against defensive backs near the goal line.

With Puka Nacua out, Adams served as Stafford's go-to option and provided a target who could beat man coverage immediately. That ability to separate without elaborate route concepts adds another dimension for coach Sean McVay's offense. Gronkowski closed by calling Adams one of the greatest receivers ever and a future Hall of Famer.
