Daniels Throws for 377 Yards as Florida State Falls at No. 8 Alabama

The Seminoles dropped to 1-2 with a 50-36 road loss, but a season-best 477 yards of offense offered encouragement for Mike Norvell's team.

Florida State fell to No. 8 Alabama 50-36 in Tuscaloosa, dropping the Seminoles to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in ACC play. It was the program's 10th consecutive road loss, but the offense showed signs of life with a season-best 477 yards.

Quarterback Ashton Daniels completed passes for 377 yards and two touchdowns, the second-highest total of his career. He also threw three interceptions, two of which set up 10 Alabama points. Coach Mike Norvell said Daniels played at a very high level despite the turnovers, adding that few quarterbacks in college football history have gone into that stadium and performed the way he did.

Daniels' yardage against Alabama exceeded his combined total from Florida State's first two games, when he threw for 327 yards. Duce Robinson broke out with six catches for 135 yards and a touchdown, one of four Seminoles receivers to top 60 yards. Micahi Danzy (3 for 89), Jayvan Boggs (2 for 69) and Samuel Singleton Jr. (2 for 68) also contributed.

Robinson credited the run game for opening up the passing attack and said he expects the offense to keep building on the performance. Quarterbacks coach Austin Tucker said Daniels gave his playmakers chances to make plays, which he called the biggest emphasis for the position.

Florida State hosts Central Arkansas on Sept. 26 before a stretch that includes Virginia, Louisville, Miami and Clemson in a five-game span. Sustaining the level Daniels showed against Alabama will likely determine whether the Seminoles can string together wins.
