The Angels carried a 6-0 lead into the late innings before the Athletics mounted their comeback. Cortes broke through with a drive to right-center off reliever Sam Bachman, now 1-3 on the season, putting Oakland ahead 7-6. Gelof followed later in the inning with another two-run shot to extend the lead.
