Lake Travis opened District 25-6A play with a 59-6 win over McNeil on Thursday at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex. The Cavaliers improved to 2-1-1 overall and 1-0 in district, and the Austin American-Statesman still lists them No. 1 in its weekly Class 6A power rankings.
The victory was Lake Travis's first since its season opener. One earlier game ended in a tie because of bad weather, and another was a rare regular-season loss to an independent private school power.
Attention now shifts to Friday's matchup between Westlake and Midland Lee at Westlake. The Rebels are 3-1 and have beaten Plano and Liberty Hill this season. Westlake enters off a 49-40 loss to Prosper last week and opens district play next week against the Round Rock Dragons. The next two weeks are expected to shape the 25-6A race.
Friday marks the halfway point of the 2026 Central Texas high school football regular season, with several Austin-area districts in full swing. The schedule includes Hutto against East View and Rouse against Vista Ridge in 24-6A, Hays against Johnson in 26-6A, Georgetown against Glenn in 12-5A Division I, and Anderson against Boerne Champion in 13-5A Division I.
Thursday's results around the area included Cedar Park shutting out Leander 56-0 in 24-6A. The Timberwolves moved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in district and have not allowed a point since Sept. 11.
In 27-6A, New Braunfels Canyon edged San Marcos 16-14. It was the closest the Rattlers, now 0-5 overall and 0-2 in district, have come to a win this season.
Class 5A action Thursday saw Weiss beat Shoemaker 42-28 in 12-5A Division I, the Wolves' third straight win since a Sept. 4 loss to Lake Travis that moved them to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in district. Manor defeated McCallum 39-31 to improve to 3-2 and 2-1, with upcoming games against Cedar Creek, Lehman, Anderson, Lockhart and Boerne Champion. Smithson Valley rolled past Cedar Creek 84-7, leaving the Eagles 2-3 and 0-2 after consecutive games against Boerne Champion, Seguin and Smithson Valley.
In 13-5A Division II, Liberty Hill beat New Braunfels 38-24 to snap a two-game skid heading into district play at 3-2 overall and 1-0. In non-district games, Crockett downed Eastside 23-8 for its second consecutive win before opening 12-5A Division II play next week at Bastrop, while Bryan Rudder handled Elgin 63-19. Elgin, now 2-3, begins district play next week at Pflugerville.
