San Antonio-Area High School Football Kicks Off Week 5 Slate

District play is underway across Class 6A and 5A in the San Antonio area, with Boerne hosting Alamo Heights in a rematch of last year's state quarterfinals.

District competition is now underway for all San Antonio-area Class 6A and 5A football teams, either starting or continuing this weekend as programs begin the push toward the Texas high school football playoffs.

The featured matchup is a District 13-5A-II game between Boerne and Alamo Heights, a rematch of a close state quarterfinal contest from a year ago. It was also named the Express-News Game of the Week.

Thursday's schedule includes a District 28-6A meeting of undefeated teams when Johnson (2-0) faces LEE (3-0) at Comalander Stadium at 7 p.m. Johnson has dominated the series, leading 17-1, including a 41-6 win in the 2025 meeting. Elsewhere Thursday, Clark (0-3) meets Churchill (0-3) at Heroes Stadium, and Harlan (3-1, 2-0 in district) hosts Marshall (1-2, 0-1) at Farris Stadium.

Smithson Valley (3-0, 2-0) hosts Bastrop Cedar Creek (2-2, 0-2) on Thursday at Ranger Stadium in the first meeting between the programs. Smithson Valley coach Larry Hill enters the weekend chasing the San Antonio career wins record, one of the notable storylines on the slate.

Friday's card features several district contests in Class 6A. East Central (3-1, 1-0) travels to Clemens (3-1, 0-1), Roosevelt (1-2) plays Madison (3-0) at Heroes Stadium, and O'Connor (2-1, 1-0) visits Brennan (3-1, 2-0) in District 29-6A. Taft (3-1, 1-1) faces Warren (2-2, 1-1) at Gustafson Stadium.

In Class 5A on Friday, unbeaten Boerne Champion (4-0, 2-0) hosts Austin Anderson (3-0, 1-0) at Boerne ISD Stadium in a first-ever meeting between the schools. The slate also includes the Gucci Bowl among the week's top-billed games.
