The 2026 Central Texas high school football season moves into Week 5, and the American-Statesman staff has released its picks for the week's top 15 Austin-area matchups. Among the headliners: Midland Lee visits Westlake on Friday, undefeated Anderson travels to the San Antonio area to face Boerne Champion, and Round Rock opens district play against Stony Point.
Midland Lee arrives at Westlake off a 28-21 win over Liberty Hill, averaging 41.25 points per game. Quarterback JP Reyes has thrown for 1,108 yards with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions, completing 67% of his passes. Westlake, coming off a bye, last played in a 49-40 loss to Prosper, with quarterback Patton Jones, running back CJ Jones and receivers Braden Riddell and Nash Chapman powering the offense. The staff pick: Westlake 34-28.
Anderson enters its road test at Boerne Champion at 3-0, having outscored opponents 123-43 behind quarterback Covert Darbyshire and a stifling defense. Boerne Champion has scored 236 points while allowing just 24. Sophomore quarterback Ryder Flugence, rated the top quarterback in his class by 247Sports, has 604 passing yards and 11 touchdowns on 37 completions. The pick: Boerne Champion 41, Anderson 31.
In district action, Round Rock hosts Stony Point riding wins over Dripping Springs and Vandegrift, including a 41-38 victory at Vandegrift on a late Simon Sylvain touchdown catch. Quarterback Dov Stickler leads the passing attack, with Dylan Jaeger and Sylvain combining for 879 yards and 11 scores. Stony Point fell to Bowie 26 points short last week after beating University 45-21 two weeks earlier. The pick: Round Rock 44, Stony Point 20.
