The family of a 16-year-old athlete has filed a lawsuit against Nike and the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation (NSAF) over an alleged rape at an overnight camp for elite high school athletes in Beaverton, Oregon, on July 5, 2026.
The complaint, obtained by PEOPLE, states that the girl, identified as Jane Doe, was in a hotel room with other campers near Nike headquarters. Once the others left, the alleged attacker made advances she rejected before choking and raping her, according to the filing.
The suit claims supervision was inadequate, with too few chaperones who did not patrol hallways or check on attendees. It also alleges staff saw blood in the room afterward, found the girl crying in the hallway, and held her in a staff member's room for up to 30 minutes without access to her parents.
According to the complaint, staff urged her to describe the encounter as consensual and had her write a statement. The assault was reported to the Beaverton Police Department, and the alleged attacker was expelled from the program and sent home. Criminal charges are pending against him, the filing states.
Nike declined to comment, citing pending litigation.
