The 22-year-old striker left Rangers at 18 for Anderlecht, IK Sirius and now Sevilla, and is among the forwards vying for a first cap in Slovenia.
Robbie Ure could win a first Scotland cap on Saturday when the national side visits Slovenia in the Nations League. The 22-year-old striker is part of a revamped forward group named by head coach Sebastien Pocognoli.
Ure came through at Rangers but managed only two brief senior appearances there, one minute against St Mirren in November 2022 and another against Hibs in May 2023. Concluding he would not get regular football in Glasgow, he joined Anderlecht in 2023 before moving on to Swedish club IK Sirius and then Sevilla, who signed him for £5.5m plus £2.5m in potential add-ons.
His form in Sweden drove the transfer. He scored 11 goals in 30 games across the 2025-26 campaign, then added 15 goals in 14 appearances for IK Sirius between April and July, including four in a single match against Mjallby. He has not yet scored in seven outings for Sevilla, who lost 3-1 to Barcelona at the weekend in a game he played from start to finish.
Injury has ruled Che Adams, Lawrence Shankland and Ross Stewart out of the squad, while Lyndon Dykes and George Hirst were not included. All five were part of Scotland's World Cup squad in the United States over the summer. Ure competes for a spot with Hearts' James Wilson and Sassuolo's Kieron Bowie, each on two caps, and Hull's Oli McBurnie, whose 16th and most recent appearance came five years ago.
Ure described the Barcelona match as a valuable learning experience, noting that top opponents punish any opening they are given. He said his move away from Rangers was difficult but necessary, since he knew regular minutes at a level suited to his development would not come in Scotland.
