White Sox Open Final Road Series in Kansas City With Playoff Push On

The Chicago White Sox open a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals with six games left in the regular season. Chicago missed a chance to all but close out the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central race last week and still controls its own path to the division title.

Anthony Kay gets the start for the White Sox. The left-hander has a 6.00 ERA over his last seven starts, allowing 22 earned runs in 33 innings, though his most recent outing was stronger, with two unearned runs and just two hits allowed over four innings against the Guardians.

Kansas City counters with left-hander Daniel Lynch IV, making his ninth start of the season. Lynch has been far more effective out of the bullpen, with a 1.96 ERA as a reliever compared to 5.28 as a starter.

Miguel Vargas, named AL Player of the Week, moves into the leadoff spot. He posted a 1.250 OPS over the last seven days, batting .313 with a .500 on-base percentage. Tommy Pham bats second, while Randal Grichuk plays left field with Tristan Peters resting after a wall collision Friday.
