Twins Edge Giants 3-2 as San Francisco Baserunning Miscues Pile Up

The Minnesota Twins defeated the San Francisco Giants 3-2 on Monday at Oracle Park, dropping San Francisco to a loss in its 158th game of the season. The Giants made unforced outs on the bases in three different innings, including a seventh-inning sequence in which Andrew Knizner was doubled off first on Luke Keaschall's sliding catch in right field, apparently losing track of the outs.

Anthony Molina took the hard-luck loss despite a strong start. He retired the first 10 batters he faced and carried a one-hit effort into the sixth, when Keaschall hit a 404-foot triple to tie the game and Brooks Lee followed with a go-ahead RBI single. Molina finished with four hits, one walk and six strikeouts over six frames. Minnesota starter Taj Bradley also struck out six, reaching 200 strikeouts on the season and becoming the 10th Twin ever to do so.

The Giants scored their runs on small ball, bringing home Shay Whitcome on Drew Cavanaugh's sacrifice bunt in the second and adding another in the ninth when Jonah Cox's line drive resulted in an RBI fielder's choice. Cox was thrown out at the plate earlier after going on contact, and Whitcome was picked off after a fourth-inning walk. reliever Duncan Davitt gave up a Wayne Jenkins home run on his first pitch in a Giants uniform.

Osleivis Basabe left the game in the ninth with what manager Tony Vitello described as a recurrence of a lingering hamstring injury. After the game, the team announced Blade Tidwell will undergo surgery for a strained UCL and will miss the 2027 season, joining Carson Whisenhunt, Trevor McDonald and Hayden Birdsong, who each had Tommy John surgery this year.
