Several skill-position players contributed to the Mercer win. Running back Justice Haynes rushed 22 times for 141 yards and two scores, while Dalen Penson hauled in three receptions for 58 yards. Receivers Jaiven Plummer and Debron Gatling each caught a touchdown pass covering more than 30 yards. Gatling's score came in the third quarter at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field in Atlanta, according to photo credit information from the Sept. 19 game.
Stanford also sits at 1-2. The Cardinal opened with a 37-27 win over Hawaii but have since been beaten badly, losing 45-6 to Miami and 35-7 to Duke.
On the ground, Stanford's Micah Ford has accumulated 202 yards and three touchdowns on 47 carries this season. Establishing the run with Ford figures to be central to the Cardinal's hopes of keeping Saturday's game competitive.
